I have a friend whose mother was very ill. Her advanced age (87) and her condition made it difficult for her to get around to the point that she needed 24hr care. My friend got her a room in an assisted living home run by a couple that goes to the same church that we do so that she may have the professional care that she needs.

Finally, her health deteriorated to the point that it was time to seek palliative care. Hospice services where ordered and counseling and medications were provided. Unfortunately, the assisted living home she was in thought that the drugs made her too “sleepy” and they determined, of their own accord, that they were going to ween her from her pain medications.

My friend was very angry with the assisted living home and decided to do some of his own research on hospice care and pain management. He came across the site Kelly the Nurse and found information that was helpful in understanding what should be done for hospice patients suffering from a lot of pain.

With this new information, he contacted his mother’s hospice provider and informed them that the assisted living home was not treating her pain properly. The next day, hospice care services visited the assisted living home and educated them in the need for proper pain management for hospice patients. Once his mother’s pain was properly treated, she became more comfortable and was able to pass away free from pain.

The world wide web is an incredible resource of information and I applaud anyone that devotes their time to share information that they have to those that may need it.

upstartblogger

While reading up on some blogging techniques, I ran across another site that I think is going to have a lot of value for me.  Upstart Blogger is a site about blogging (duh) and goes over all aspects of running a successful blog.  There are topics on design, software, hardware and blogging practices that all bloggers should follow if they hope to run a successful blog.

The site has a lot of information and I have only spent a total of 1.5 hours reading through some of the stuff there, but it is one that I will be visiting often for the resource it provides.

inadobo

I found a new blog today that could turn into something interesting.  Filipino Food is a blog with Filipino recipes and information on some of the unique ingredients that go into filipino cooking.

Fried  Lumpia, is one of the featured recipes. They’re basically Filipino egg rolls and they seem pretty easy to make.  Pork Adobo is another recipe that sounds pretty good and who knew that somewhere in this world there were yams that were purple.

iciwyoming

If you are a country with a military and in need of special training for your troops, ICI Wyoming could fill a slot for you.

From there web site:

ICI Wyoming provides realistic training, training support and quality Battlefield Effects in support of US Department of Defense and US Department of State.

I’m sure that they would consider clients outside of the US for military training if there was enough dough thrown at them.

Anyway, the web site is pretty cool with videos of stuff blowing up (lots of it),  people sporting makeup to simulate battlefield injuries, and troops running around doing the stuff that troops do when they aren’t dodging RPG’s fired at them from Iraqi insurgents.
